The
WIPP Repository Transparency Demonstration monitors the environment and
materials in underground storage. There are two principal parts, a video
monitoring system,
"NTVision", and a general purpose monitoring system
called the Material Monitoring System (MMS).
-
The MMS currently measures environmental
values on the surface and underground: temperature, air movement and air
pressure, humidity and precipitation (surface only). In addition, a "T1"
sensor, attached to a simulated waste drum, measures for motion.
-
The NTVision system collects
images from two cameras. When the video system detects changes to
a scene, it captures a series of images, which are stored for analysis.
These images can be combined to create a movie of the event. This movie
is displayed to users graphically on a monitor using web-based tools.
