About Fukui Prefecture

Fukui Prefecture is located next to Kyoto and faces the Sea of Japan. There are five nuclear power stations, which are operated by two electric power companies and a research  institute. Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc. has three nuclear power station (NPS), Mihama, Ohi and Takahama. Japan Atomic Power Company has Tsuruga NPS. Japan Nuclear Cycle Fuel Development Institute (JNC) has Fugen NPS (Advanced Thermal Reactor) and the prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (FBR) Monju. There are 15 reactors totally.
Fukui Prefectural Environmental Radiation Research and Monitoring Center (FERMC) has created the real-time Environmental Monitoring web-site of Fukui in April, 2001. FERMC transmits the data from all nuclear operating companies in Fukui. Thus, they show the airborne radiation data from 78 Monitoring Posts (MP) or Monitoring Stations (MS).
They also show the data of meteorological observation, electrical output, stack gas monitoring and effluent water monitoring.

The following pages give English annotation of the FERMC pages. Each annotated page has links to the actual real-time FERMC web-site (in Japanese).

Monitoring Posts/Stations in Fukui Pref.

Monitoring Posts/Stations

In Fukui Prefecture, the electric companies or the research institute that have nuclear power stations in this prefecture, monitor the airborne radiation around their own stations for the purpose of ensuring safety.
There are 78 Monitoring Posts (MP) or Monitoring Stations (MS) totally in this prefecture, and they cover large areas around the nuclear power stations. (18 of Fukui Pref. Government, 39 of KEPCO, 10 of JAPC, 11 of JNC)

For distinguishing other companies’ MP/MS from the prefecture's, the names have “MP” or “MS” after the location name. In other words, prefecture’s MP/MS do not have “MP” or “MS” in their name.

Location Area

On this web-site, the measuring locations are divided into 4 areas, Tsuruga (included Shiraki area), Mihama, Ohi and Takahama.
Each area has at least one nuclear power station.
