Shimane Prefecture and Shimane Nuclear Power Plant

Shimane Prefecture is located in the southwestern part of Japan's main island, north of Hiroshima Prefecture. In the north lies the Sea of Japan. There is one nuclear power station, Shimane Nuclear Power Station, which is owned and operated by Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. It has two BWR type reactors that have been operated since 1974 and 1989, respectively.
Shimane Prefectural Institute of Public Health and Environmental Science has created the Environmental Radiation Real-time Data Display Web-site of Shimane. They show the airborne radiation data measured by their own 11 monitoring posts around the nuclear station and by 6 on-site monitoring posts of Chugoku Electric. Chugoku Electric also provides other monitoring data, such as stack gas monitor and water effluent monitor, to this institute.

The Environmental Policy Division, Shimane Prefectural Government, operates this web-site and may be contacted at kankyo@pref.shimane.jp

The following pages give English annotations of the Shimane pages. Each annotated page has links to the actual real-time Shimane web-site (in Japanese).
